Job Overview
Supervise the daily operations of non-exempt team members for physician and hospital billing practices. This
supervisor needs the ability to optimize our billing standards and have a strong understanding of medical
insurance, claim processing, appeal process, and compliance regulations. The financial health of our clients
depends on the effectiveness of our billing processes.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day workload of all team members and multiple clients
- Monitor, escalate Issues, problems and opportunities (IPO) to manager for escalation to client
- Ensure accurate billing of medical claims
- Ensure all initial claims, rebills, rejections, failed claims etc. are worked daily
- Knowledge of process flow in multiple clearinghouse systems
- Interviewing of potential team members
- Ensure team member compliance with HIPAA, State and Federal Laws and Guidelines
- Continuous training and mentoring of team members.
- Responsible to train all new hires on both client and Currance best practice workflows.
- Establish cross functional teams that can support multiple clients.
- Ensure team members comply with productivity standards while maintaining quality levels.
- Review quality audits with team members weekly and coach for improvement where needed.
- Review team member’s performance daily and provide coaching to team member if not meeting key metrics.
- Escalate employee deficiencies to manager if coaching attempts have failed.
- Report and discuss team member and team progress with Operations Manager.
- Carry out disciplinary counseling and implement Employee Success Plans, as needed.
- Promote teamwork and a positive work environment.
- Responsible for team member payroll accuracy and approval.
- Complete performance evaluation of staff.
- Identify billing issues and communicate to team and manager.
- Research and resolve problem bills as presented.
- Promote positive environment and teamwork.
- Identify, create and establish standard operating procedures for billing practices.
- Work with management to develop policies.
- Lead and contribute to team shift briefings.
- Possible travel.
- Participate in client payor/internal meetings as requested.
- Complete all assigned projects in a timely manner.
- Perform other duties as required.
- Experience working on multiple different EMRs.
Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum 1 year of supervisory experience within the last six (6) months with a healthcare provider or an outsourcing company.
- Minimum 2 years of experience billing and coding in a practice or hospital setting (HCFA1500 and UB04)
- Minimum 2 years of experience in managing multiple billing projects on different EMRs.
- Current billing and coding certifications (CPB and CPC)
- Clearinghouse management billing functions
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Expert in assigning accurate medical codes for services performed by a clinician.
- Knowledge of coding guidelines
- Understand how to integrate medical coding and payment policy changes into reimbursement processes.
- Knowledge of healthcare revenue cycle administration: CMS rules, HIPAA, etc.
- Knowledge of GoToMeeting/Zoom and TEAMS
- Knowledge of Microsoft application suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, etc.)
- Skilled in basic revenue cycle and billing focused analytics.
- Skilled in time management, continuous performance improvement techniques, management, leadership, written and verbal communication, basic math, computers, problem solving, interpersonal communication,
- Microsoft Office, decision making, and ethics.
- Ability to initiate and follow through on projects and work independently.
- Ability to take initiative and learn new software applications.
- Ability to mentor and develop team members.
